What? No Bacon? #SOL17

Something truly magical happens at 7:30 AM on Saturdays at my house. It might not sound like much to you, but it means the world to me: my husband makes me breakfast. It’s always the same, but that’s OK with me. He disappears into the kitchen and whips up 2 poached eggs on whole wheat toast and, the most important part, some form of bacon. I LOVE BACON! Sometimes it’s heart-healthy Canadian Bacon, other times its turkey bacon. Never real bacon. Now that’s a real treat that I order if we go out for breakfast.

I can’t remember why, but at some point I mentioned to my Kindergartners that this was our Saturday morning routine. So now, almost every Friday during Morning Meeting, someone asks if Mr. Wyman is going to make me bacon and eggs. The answer is yes! One Monday I reported to them (again not really sure why!) that he went to make breakfast and — THERE WAS NO BACON! How could this happen? Every once in a while one of them will think to ask, “Are you sure you have bacon?”

I’m headed to EdCamp Boston this morning, so the cook is starting a little earlier today. So accommodating!

This post is part of the annual month-long Slice of Life writing challenge organized by Two Writing Teachers. Join us! It’s my first time slicing and apparently I’m an “Early Morning Slicer,” too!

  1. Glad to hear there was bacon before you headed out to Edcamp. I was worried that you’d have to do all that thinking without proper protein. Your voice is super strong in this slice!

  2. Ahh, yes! We love bacon here too. My husband will make it during the week and then when I leave for school I smell like bacon! Oh well, it’s worth it. Enjoy EdCamp! Maybe that will be a slice soon!

  3. This was a delightful little slice. “Do you have bacon?” might be for my students to ask, “Do you have coffee?” All is right with the world when there is bacon, coffee and toilet paper!
