Is a V.I.P. table OK? #SOL17

“The table we planned to seat you at isn’t ready, but a V.I.P. one just opened up. Would that be OK?” My husband’s eyes met mine and I knew we were both silently, secretly smiling inside. “Of course,” I said calmly, nonchalantly. The young host guided us through the maze of tables to a window overlooking the sparkling, snowy courtyard of the Boston Public Library. The Courtyard Restaurant’s high-backed velvety chairs were warm and comforting on this frigid February afternoon. The room was buzzing with conversation – a group of girl friends sporting feathery fascinators, a family celebrating together, and couples sharing intimate conversations on this Valentine’s Day weekend. “Would you like champagne, hot tea, or both, to accompany your afternoon tea?” Again our eyes met, this time across the table. “Both, please,” my husband offered without letting much time elapse.

This post is part of the annual month-long Slice of Life writing challenge organized by Two Writing Teachers. Join us! It’s my first year slicing, I’m a planner, a grateful slicer, and apparently an early morning slicer, too!
