Last week a beautiful thing happened. My Kindergarten poets and their First Grade Buddies wrote haiku together for the first time. To learn more about this experience, you may read my Slice of Life post from this Tuesday here. For Poetry Friday today, I celebrate and amplify their poetic voices and collaboration.

Clever young poets! They ask some big questions, pay attention, include vivid details. Nice job!

What wonderful collaborations! I particularly enjoy the ones that end with questions — Abbey and Eleanor’s caterpillar and Ben and Zade’s shark. I can tell these young poets were really thinking and feeling and playing with language. Inspiring!

These are wonderful! I love how creative and fearless young children can be, I wish so many of us didn’t lose that confidence over time! Being a life-long shark lover myself, I have a special place in my heart for Ben and Zade’s shark-themed haiku. 🙂

These are wonderful! My daughter was a fifth grade buddy to a younger student in elementary school. These poems are proof that student-to-student collaborations benefit both the mentor and the mentee.

Once again, I know I read this post but did not comment. I like the first haiku. It is easy for me to take a screenshot of the children writing followed by the poem. What do you think?
