At the moment… #SOLC18

At the moment, I am…

Feeling – Hopeful about today. Yesterday was rough, but today is going to be a great day!

Listening – To the birds chirping happily as they enjoy their breakfast on the Cornell Birds live Feeder Cam at Sapsucker Woods in Ithaca, NY. Projected onto my classroom interactive whiteboard, we use the feeder cam in my Kindergarten classroom as a “soft start” each day. My students can’t wait to come in and see who is at the feeder station (6 different feeders) and compare them to the birds at our classroom feeders. Most students can know identify by sight (and a few by song) Blue Jays, Cardinals, Red Winged Blackbirds, Grackles, Starlings, Tufted Titmice, Mourning Doves, Chickadees, and Goldfinch. We are still working on several woodpeckers and House and Purple Finches. Not bad. We also use the live feed to compare our weather in Massachusetts to their weather in upstate New York. So many curriculum connections!

Enjoying – My morning coffee, the quiet in my classroom before my colleagues arrive, the sun as it continues to rise, and the dawn’s light spilling into the vast, empty space.

Planning – My week of Spring Break coming up in a couple of weeks. I try to find a balance between work and play. A week is a gift, and I don’t want to fritter it away. Writing and reading are definitely priorities!

Loving – My new Morning/Evening Pages writing routine. Three pages sounded like so much, but once I get started the words spill onto the page. At least thus far they have. I’m sure there will be days when they don’t.

This post is part of the annual month-long Slice of Life writing challenge organized by Two Writing Teachers. Join us! It’s my second year of Slicing in the challenge. (If you want to take a peek at the Padlet of writing ideas I’ve created, I’m happy to share. Click here! It grows every day.)
