Many thanks to the crew at Two Writing Teachers, and the extended SOL community, for giving us the time, space, and encouragement to live the writerly life here each Tuesday. Won’t you join us?

  1. This is a perfect poem for the day – it applies to parents as well as educators, with the rush of a new school year rolling around again. Not to mention the “cruel” heat of August; I’m in North Carolina and the word I used most recently to describe August temperature is “brutal.” I especially like that the poem ended not with the end, but with beginnings … it is hopeful.

  2. I love the juxtaposition of the two summer months. While their length is the same, the sultry bliss paints such an inviting time, whereas the “sweltering afternoons” depict quite the opposite feeling. Here’s to finding a balance between relaxation and readiness! Great to meet you IRL at Heinemann Teacher Tour Saturday!
