Ice Cream in the age of COVID #SOLSC #SOL21

“How about we go get an ice cream after dinner?” You don’t have to ask my husband that question twice.

It was still in the 60s by the time we finished eating around 6:30 pm, so we made a move for the car. “Wait a minute,” I said. “We better check and see who is open. I quickly Googled the closest ice cream shop, Reasons To Be Cheerful. It’s about 10 minutes away. Yes, they were open until 7:00 pm. We’d have time. “And I better see if you have to order online.” No, the website said orders could be taken at their new window. No inside customers yet. “What about paying?” Credit cards, but no cash. Got it.

I long for the days when you can just get up and go. Spontaneity isn’t a thing at the moment, but the Pretzel Chip ice cream still tastes good.

Thanks for wondering and wandering a bit with me today. And many thanks to the crew at Two Writing Teachers, and the extended SOL community, for giving us the time, space, and encouragement to live the writerly life here every Tuesday throughout the year and daily during the month of March.

  1. You are right! The inclination is to still just go and do something, but then its’s the – wait a minute! I forgot, we can’t ride together, I can’t pick him, up, he can’t come over, we can’t go there…..Hopefully the light is at the end of the tunnel and we are getting closer to it – I hope! Great Slice!

  2. Definitely a sweet slice, and I agree…can’t wait until we can just ‘up and go’ without double checking everything, because sometimes the internet says a place is open when they are not. Pretzel chip sounds intriguing…glad you were able to enjoy!

  3. I know, I miss the spontaneity too! I’m hoping it will be back soon. One thing though, I think it has made us all a little more appreciative of the small things, such as the trip to the ice cream shop. And yum, pretzels and ice cream, how can you go wrong!

  4. I love ice cream and being spontaneous. These days have made us all see things in a different way. Glad you made the trip and enjoyed the pretzel chip ice cream. Haven’t seen that one around here yet. What a great combination.

  5. Oooh! Pretzel Chip sounds amazing. Thanks for including the thoughts and dialogue to show us the situation. It is so representative of life these days.

    Thanks for sharing.

  6. Pretzel Chip sounds good. Going out isn’t as easy as it once was, but it’s a lot easier than it used to be. It’s rare that we show up to an unexpected “closed” sign anymore. Well, unless the establishment hasn’t updated their website in a while…don’t get me started about that! Thanks for sharing your outing with us. 🙂
