Happy Poetry Friday, everyone! Michelle Barnes at Today’s Little Ditty is our hostess this week. As she notes, it’s been a challenging week for so many. I found solace in focusing on my joyful Kindergarten students, parent conferences, my writing, and creating this week.
The stunning trees bursting with color that brighten our school grounds and my drive home each afternoon inspire me. While sitting at our classroom art table with a tray of fresh watercolors the other day — fun for my students, therapeutic for me — an image of a new watercolor palette brimming with gorgeous fall hues came to mind.
I’ll be sharing this poetic seasonal postcard with Carol Varsalona for her #AbundantAutumn digital gallery. Might you have something to offer? To find out more, click here.

Too bad they are so short-lived, though.

I love imagining you with those students, painting away from fall inspiration. Love ‘watercolor cakes”.

What gorgeous autumnal tints! I had to look up “gamboge,” but it certainly fits!

That canvas is definitely fading here–we’ve got snow today. (I’d rather look at your colorful trees.)

It’s coming soon to us, too, sadly.

I definitely find solace in working with children, no matter how hard times get, their naturally loving and giving personalities always help perk me right back up. This week I was swarmed with preschool hugs, and it was just the thing I needed to get me through these tough times.

I’m in love with the color names….sepia captures me. I’m writing that down in my journal. I wonder where it will pop up next? And, who can resist watercolor cakes? Not me!

Christie, sorry I am getting around to reading your image poem so late. I am trying to get ready for NCTE and wish you were next to me. I got room in my luggage! I am honored that you mentioned my name and fall gallery of which your poem will have a special place. I was thinking can the children create a class poem of watercolor cakes for the gallery. I love table painting. Love this color word: gamboge-partially transparent deep saffron to mustard yellow pigment. You are going to send me the image poem via my email and #AbundantAutumn via Twitter and Instagram, right? Can’t Wait!

I’ve enjoyed the autumn display on my commute as well. Your poem captures those fleeting, fading colors perfectly.
