Under Construction #SOL17

Yesterday I gave my Kindergarten students a little on-demand writing challenge during Writer’s Workshop. I decide to take up the challenge, too! The prompt was a photograph of an amazing block structure that many of my students had worked on a few weeks back for days on end. It was fascinating to see who wrote stories involving the structure, while others chose to write about the process of creating the building. A few chose to write poetry, including myself.

Under Construction

Where do your ideas come from?

What inspires you? (Are you sure you haven’t seen Game of Thrones?)

Never ceasing to amaze me

Each block chosen so carefully, placed so strategically

Days, weeks of work

Interest never waning

Occupancy permit pending

How long can we leave this up?

This post is part of the annual month-long Slice of Life writing challenge organized by Two Writing Teachers. Join us! It’s my first time slicing and apparently I’m an “Early Morning Slicer,” too!

  1. Christie,
So amazing that “different genres” can be called into service when students “choose” their own way to write. Now I’m curious about whether they chose something that was “comfortable” or something that would be a “stretch”!!! ❤
