Happy Poetry Friday, everyone! Our hostess this week is Irene Latham and her blog, Live Your Poem, has had a gorgeous makeover. I hope you’ll visit her there!
Last week I shared my poem, Brave Writer, which was inspired by my sweet Kindergarten writers. This week I’m serving up a sampler of bite-sized list poems I know you’ll have room for. These are my young writers’ first attempts at poetry — WOOT WOOT! We’ve been reading Georgia Heard’s Falling Down the Page: A Book of List Poems as well lots of list poems on Amy Ludwig VanDerwater’s Poem Farm website. These mentor texts inspired us to put pen to paper and carve up thankful list poems. Bon appetit! (Click the link below to watch a Spark video of everyone’s poem.)

Thanks for wondering and wandering a bit with me and I hope you’ll join us on this lovely Poetry Friday!
This Kindergartener’s Thankful poem fills me with joy! Thank you so much for sharing, and for all you do with your students to fill them with the joy of poetry, too. xo

They’re wonderful, Christie, love each one, sometimes hard to read all, but read lots of thanks for moms and dads, dogs and pink! Your mentor texts must have delighted the students. It’s great that you do this with your students. Thank you!

This is wonderful, Christie. Falling Down the Page is a great resource. I use it in the classroom too! Am I reading correctly, “I L MY FL” is “I love my life”?

Or, ‘I love my family’? It was so cute, matching meanings – though sometimes the video passed to quickly for me. 🙂 I need to pick up my game!

I think it’s I love my family, but you need a Secret Decoder ring, don’t you? LOL!

I love these reminders of how all poets/writers begin. I’m with the kid who’s thankful for YOU!

Thanks for sharing your lovely video of your student’s first writings–how rich and animated they are–they’re bursting with life and color in so many ways, kudos to the students and the teacher!
